Where to Visit in Kingston: Take Two

Students from our Intermediate Level I EAP classes share their recommendations of places to visit in Kingston.

Wolfe Island
By: Kaya

ImageNight views have the power to make people happy. There are many good places to see night views in Kingston, my favorite place is Wolfe Island. When I went there with my friends, we saw a perfect sunset, which was one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. While I was looking at that sunset, I felt something nostalgic. I think it is true that sunsets make people feel close to nature. It means it relaxes us. Seeing that sunset was very comforting. We were also able to see a lot of stars on Wolfe Island as well. I assume that stars make us tend to think about the future. I have not decided what I want to be, so I will go there to get some ideas about my future. It was good place to think.

Bellevue House
By: Akihiro

ImageIf you are interested in Canada’s history I recommend that you visit Bellevue House, which was the home of Sir John A. Macdonald, Canada’s first Prime Minister. This is such an interesting place. There is a Visitor’s Center next to the house where you can watch a video about Macdonald’s life. If you pay about three dollars, you can enter the house. When you go inside there are staff dressed in old-fashioned costumes who explain to you about the house. Then, you can see Macdonald’s and his family’s rooms and you will learn about their lifestyle by reading guides. If you go outside, you will see the staff working in a garden. The scene reminded me of the flavor of the 19th century.  Overall, Bellevue House is such an interesting place in Kingston.

Lake Ontario Park
By: Nassr

ImageLake Ontario Park is one of the most beautiful places in Kingston, especially during the summer. It’s very quiet and clean. It has recently been modified from the old one. So if you like hanging out, walking, or relaxing, you can do that beside a wonderful view of the lake. Also you can invite your friends to sit under the beautiful trees talking, laughing, and making a barbecue. As well, you can swim at the amazing beach. Furthermore, if you have a family, it’s a favourable site for kids. They love to splash in the water fountain, play in the sand, swim in the lake, or happily ride their bikes along the paths crossing the park. Indeed, Lake Ontario Park is a great place to have fun during the summer. Do not miss it!

Favourite Restaurants
By: Yu

ImageThere are a lot of restaurants in downtown Kingston. I think the best one is Spin Dessert Cafe. This restaurant has many kinds of desserts such as cakes, crepes, waffles, ice-cream and so on. All the portions are huge! The inside of the restaurant is also pretty. I would also recommend Silver Wok. You can eat Chinese food there, which is very delicious, reasonable and quite big portions (see picture). I love this restaurant! Of course, I also enjoy eating at chain restaurants like McDonald’s and Tim Horton’s, but I prefer eating at these fancier places!
